The renowned Lake District is a much anticipated portion of the tour. A ‘day off’ from our vacation is welcome, and just what we need. Keswick is the perfect place for a break.
After a relaxing boat ride, it is time to enjoy the most famous attribute of The Lakes, the tempting hiking trails.
We come close to circumnavigating Derwentwater, and also ascend to a higher route above the lake for a stretch.
Mark leads a late afternoon excursion to perhaps our favorite location on the entire tour.
Castlerigg Stone Circle has a superlative setting.
While Niki exclaims over horticultural specimens, Joe is equally enthused about British vehicles. The total lack of pickup trucks is a bit disconcerting to us westerners, but there is plenty to admire among local autos.
We will return to the Lake District on our Coast to Coast walk, the route passing near the opposite end of Derwentwater from Keswick.
The next itinerary entry is Vindolanda, home of Roman antiquities and ruins.
