By culturing fungus isolated from infected animals in the wild, they have also been able to fulfill Koch's postulates to determine if an organism causes a disease. These include: The pathogen must be present in all cases of the disease; the pathogen must be isolated from a diseased host and grow in culture; uninfected animals acquire the disease when exposed to the pathogen; and the pathogen must be re-isolated from the experimentally infected host.
